Read for Good Readathon

5th March 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

We are delighted to be taking part in the fourth DGAT Readathon, when pupils from across our Academy chain will be reading their socks off from World Book Day to 27th March 2020.

Theses glorious weeks of reading are being organised by the charity, Read for Good, which has been running its sponsored Readathon in schools since 1984, motivating millions of children to read for fun across the country.

Please visit www.readforgood.org to find out more.

The main aim of the DGAT Readathon is to help create a community of readers. We know of course that learning to love to read as a child has benefits that last a lifetime - from educational outcomes to emotional well being - but first you need to read. Motivation is an important part of reading well, as is reading what you love. Readathon delivers both!

Children can read whatever they like - from comics to classics - and 20% of whatever we raise goes into a school library. The rest supports Read for Good's unique programme placing mobile bookcases and resident storytellers in all of the UK's major children's hospitals, including Gloucestershire Royal Children's Hospital.

We would like your support.

Please support your child as much as you can - get involved in what they've chosen to read, sponsor them if you can and give lots of encouragement

Help your child find sponsors among family and friends.

Sponsors can pay directly online at www.readforgood.org/sponsor or by cash or cheque made out to 'Read for Good' and sent to school.
