School Council

At St John's the school council is an integral part of school life and they play an important part in the academic year.

Annual elections are held, with two children from each class elected for a position in the council. To be successful the children canvass by writing and delivering speeches to their constituencies. Voting takes place using  ballot boxes and booths borrowed from the local council.

Once appointed, throughout the year the council will meet regularly with Mrs Coleman to talk about new ideas and how they think the school can be improved, using the views of the other children from their classes.

One of the council's key responsibilities within school is fundraising. The children will assist in the organisation of fundraising events, such as Children in Need and Comic Relief, working with Mrs Coleman to plan the day and the different events the school will take part in.

The council also chose our link charity for the academic year. For 2017, our selected charity is Great Oaks Dean Forest Hospice.
